Master Bond UV17Med is a low viscosity, UV curable system with an affinity for bonding to a wide array of thermoplastic urethanes. Typically, TPUs are difficult to bond to, but UV17Med is specially formulated to provide excellent adhesion to a great many variations of this type of elastomer. UV17Med is notable for having a low tensile modulus along with high elongation. Significantly, it contains special ingredients that allow for superior adhesion to TPUs. The system has low shrinkage upon curing and good dimensional stability.
UV17Med also bonds well to a variety of other substrates, including metals, ceramics, glass, and other plastics. It has good chemical resistance to water, cleaning agents, chemical sterilants, EtO and gamma radiation. It is a reliable thermal and electrical insulator with a service temperature range of -80°F to +250°F. Also, its physical properties allow it to withstand aggressive thermal cycling.
UV17Med generally cures readily in 10-30 seconds when exposed to a UV light source emitting at a wavelength of 320-365 nm with an energy output of 20-40 milliwatts/cm². The rate of cure depends upon the system’s distance from the light source, the thickness of the section and of course the intensity of the light source. Most importantly, UV17Med does not display oxygen inhibition. This system can be used in medical devices where adhesion to TPUs along with ISO 10993-5 requirements are required. It can also be used in non-medical applications where adhesion to thermoplastic urethanes is needed.
